Easter is a religious holiday, but some of its customs, such as Easter eggs, are probably associated with pagan traditions. The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, is associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs symbolize Jesus' emergence from the grave and resurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that, according to some sources, dates back to at least the 13th century. One explanation for the custom is that eggs used to be a forbidden food during Lent, so people painted and decorated them to mark the end of a period of penance and fasting, and then ate them on Easter in celebration.

Easter egg hunts and egg rolling are two popular egg-related traditions. In the United States, an annual event held on the Monday after Easter is the White House Easter Egg Roll, a race in which children move decorated hard-boiled eggs across the White House lawn. The first official White House egg roll race was held in 1878, when Rutherford B. Hayes was president. The event has no religious significance, although some believe that rolling eggs symbolizes that the stone blocking Jesus' tomb was moved away, leading to his resurrection. In Poland we don't have this tradition yet and it hasn't caught on, at least until now when we checked some sources there is no mention of this tradition.
