2 These plants can live for a very long time, the oldest living rose is 1000 years old. It grows on the wall of Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany and has been documented since 815. According to legend, the shrub symbolizes the prosperity of the city of Hildesheim as long as it blooms, Hildesheim will not fall. In 1945, Allied bombers destroyed the cathedral, but the shrub survived. Its roots remained intact under the rubble and soon the bush began to grow strong again.
