Hummer Coloring Book
These are America's all-terrain vehicles - it all started here in 1983 where the Pentagon awards AM General Corporation a manufacturing contract worth over $1 billion to develop 55,000 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs). These wide, rugged vehicles, named Humvee and designed to transport troops and cargo. They became extremely popular when they were used by the U.S. military during the 1989 invasion of Panama and during the Gulf War in the early 1990s.
In 1992, a civilian version of the Humvee, known as the Hummer, went on sale. This powerful, eye-catching road warrior weighed several tons and was not a very fast vehicle compared to other off-road vehicles. However, it became a hit in the U.S. especially among Hollywood celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who became the owner of a fleet of Hummers. In December 1999, General Motors purchased the rights from AM General to market and distribute the Hummer. In 2002, the Hummer H2, a smaller and less expensive version of the original model, debuted. The Hummer has become a symbol of the American super-sized lifestyle, but this fuel-efficient vehicle has also become the target of harsh criticism from environmentalists due to the enormous fuel burn of such vehicles.
In 2005, the Hummer H3 was created, an even smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle. The following year, GM ended production due to low sales. In 2008, as Americans faced a growing economic crisis and rising fuel prices, as well as growing environmental concerns, Hummer sales dropped by more than 50 percent. In 2020, ten years after the last Hummer was produced, GM announced that it would relaunch the brand, a new EV model was created that is all-electric and will reportedly become a sales hit not only in the U.S. but also in Europe and other countries around the world.
