1. Greek mythology: As I mentioned earlier, hyacinth has its roots in Greek mythology. Hyakinthos was a beautiful young man who was the object of the affections of the god Apollo and the west wind, Zephyr. As a result of Zephyr's jealousy, Hyakinthos was killed, and from his blood grew a plant that was named after him.
2. Language of flowers: In Victorian flower language, hyacinth symbolized deep affection and prayer: "I pray that you are mine." Different colors of hyacinths had different meanings. For example, blue hyacinth meant constancy, white meant beauty, and red or pink meant fun.
