The Lion King is a 1994 animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time. The plot of the movie centers on a lioness in Africa named Simba, who learns to find his place and must fight to become the rightful king of Pride Rock and defeat his uncle who had tricked his brother who was the king.
During its release in 1994, the film grossed over $774 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of that year, and is currently in the 50 highest-grossing feature films of all time. It won two Academy Awards for Achievement in Music and a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. The songs were written by composer Elton John.
Disney movie characters and trivia
1) Simba - the title character. He is the son of Mufasa and Sarabi and the partner of Nala. After defeating his uncle Flaw, Simba becomes the new king.
2) Nala - is Simba's childhood friend and mate. Nala becomes Queen of the Pride Lands when Simba becomes king.
3) Timon and Pumbaa - are the supporting characters. They are a fun and comical duo. They are a warthog and a surgeon. Their world-famous lyric is "Hakuna Matata" meaning nothing happened. They are Simba's new friends after saving him in the desert during his self-imposed exile from the Pride Lands.
4) Mufasa - is the king of the Pride Lands at the beginning of the movie, Sarabi's mate, Simba's father and Flaw's older brother. Mufasa is killed by Flaw after being thrown off a cliff and getting trampled by a wildebeest. Later, Mufasa reappears as a ghost and continues to live inside Simba.
5) Flaw - Mufasa's younger brother and Simba's jealous uncle who wants the throne. He, with the help of hyenas, kills his brother. Later, after being overthrown by Simba who has returned to avenge his father, Flaw is eaten alive by hyenas.
6) Other characters in this fairy tale include Zazu which is a bird that is Simba's friend and always delivers different news from the kingdom. There are also Hyenas who are evil characters in the fairy tale and they allied themselves with Flaw in the beginning.
