- The character of Jack Sparrow: Johnny Depp admitted that his character, Jack Sparrow, was inspired by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. Interestingly, Richards later appeared in the series as Sparrow's father.
- Captain Jack's Makeup: Depp came up with his character's makeup himself, taking inspiration from musician Iggy Pop.
- The original concept: Disney originally planned "Pirates of the Caribbean" as a low-budget film before they decided on a big project starring Johnny Depp.
- Curse of the Black Pearl: In the first film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," every time the pirates turned into skeletons, each character was created using CGI technology.
- Poorer by a gold tooth: For his role, Johnny Depp decided that he wanted a gold tooth. In fact, he opted for a real gold tooth, which was later removed after the shooting.
