Trivia

  1. Beginning as a parody: "Ninja Warrior Turtles" was originally created as a parody of popular comic books of the time, such as "Daredevil" and "X-Men" from Marvel. Even the Foot Clan, the evil organization in "Ninja Warrior Turtles," is a parody of The Hand, a group of ninja villains from the "Daredevil" comics.
  2. Names associated with the Renaissance: The Turtles were named after four Renaissance artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.
  3. Originally they were supposed to be one color: In the original comics, all the turtles had red bandanas. The different colors were only introduced in the animated series to make it easier to tell the characters apart.
  4. Michelangelo a nunchaku: In some countries, such as Britain, nunchaku (the weapons used by Michelangelo) were considered illegal, leading to censorship of the scenes in which they were used, or their replacement with other weapons.
  5. Splinter and Shredder: In the comics, Splinter is a rat mutant who was the pet of one of the ninjutsu masters. In turn, Shredder, the main antagonist, was the murderer of that master.
  6. Change in tone: The original comic books had a much darker and more violent tone compared to the animated series, which was more humorous and lighter to be more suited to a younger audience.
  7. First video: The first live-action film, 1990's "Ninja Warrior Turtles," was one of the highest-grossing independent films of all time.
  8. Appearance in another comic book: Before creating their own comic book series, the Turtles first appeared in the comic book "Fugitoid" by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
  9. Other mutations: In the various adaptations of the series, there have been other characters who also underwent mutation, such as Bebop and Rocksteady, who were human but were turned into a warbler and a rhinoceros.
  10. One actor, many roles: In the first live-action film from 1990, actor Kevin Clash provided the voice of Splinter and handled the Splinter puppet, and was also responsible for handling the Donatella puppet. Clash is also known for being the voice of Elmo in "Sesame Street."
