  1. Appearance: The kite is a medium-sized raptor, with a body length of 60 to 65 cm, a wingspan of 155 to 165 cm and a weight of 0.8 to 1.3 kg. The kite has reddish-brown plumage with darker wings. A characteristic feature is the long, forked tail.

  3. Behavior: The kite is known for its smooth and graceful flight. It can often be seen soaring high in the air on warm air currents.
  4. Reproduction: Kites are monogamous, meaning they form pairs for life. They build large nests in trees, into which the female lays 2 to 3 eggs per year. The eggs are incubated for about 32 days, and the young leave the nest after about 50-60 days.
  5. Distribution and habitat: Kites are found in Europe, Asia and northern Africa. They prefer open or semi-open landscapes with access to water and large trees for nesting.
  6. Threats and protection: The kite is a protected species in many countries, including Poland. Its populations are at risk due to habitat loss, pesticide pollution and hunting. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies canines as a species of least concern, but some populations are considered at risk of extinction.
  7. Trivia: The kite is one of the most famous and recognizable birds of prey in Europe. It is often depicted in art and literature as a symbol of freedom and power. Despite their predatory lifestyle, kites often use carrion as a food source, making them important animals in the recycling of organic matter in ecosystems.
