- Name and nickname: Deku is a nickname that was originally used disdainfully by one of his peers at school, Katsuki Bakugō. Later, however, Deku begins to accept the nickname as his own, and even adopts it with pride. The word "Deku" comes from the Japanese phrase "Dekiru," which means "to do something," referring to the capacity for action that Deku gradually discovers in himself.
- Personality: Izuku Midoriya, known as Deku, is an empathetic, dedicated and highly motivated young boy. He is highly intelligent, but initially lacked any supernatural abilities (known as quirks powers) in a world where most people have such powers.
