Since the United States does not have a traditional emblem, the image on the obverse of the Great Seal is often used unofficially in just that role. The Great Seal of the United States is used to authenticate documents issued by US authorities. The name is used both to refer to the seal and, more generally, to the image on it. Use different colors when painting the image.
