Princess Celestia first appears in the story of the ponies with her sister when, using the Jewels of Harmony, they were able to turn to stone the spirit of discord that ruled the land based on chaos. Seeing how unrewarding life is for the ponies, the princesses set out to defeat the despot and bring harmony and balance in place of the previous disorder.
