Cloud is a former member of the elite SOLDIER unit, created by the Shinra Corporation to combat terrorism. When we meet him he is a mercenary working for the resistance movement, AVALANCHE. His mission is to blow up one of the reactors sucking the planet's Mako energy. In time, he becomes involved in a battle with the Shinra corporation to save the planet.
