"Hong Kong Phooey" is an American animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, which aired from September 1974 to December 1974. Despite the short broadcast period, the series has gained cult status and is well remembered.

The main character is Penrod "Penry" Pooch, a dog working as a janitor in a police station. When trouble comes, Penry transforms into Hong Kong Phooey, a pseudo-superhero who tries to solve various crimes and mysteries. Disguised as Hong Kong Phooey, Penry is a kung fu master, although his skills are often comically inadequate.
Hong Kong Phooey is always traveling in his "Phooeymobile," which can transform into different vehicles when Phooey hits its rear end with a gong.
The series was known for its humor and original concept, and because Hong Kong Phooey's voice was lent by Scatman Crothers, a popular jazz musician and actor.
