"Oliver and Company" (original title "Oliver & Company") is an American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 18, 1988. The film is loosely based on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist."

  • "Oliver and Company" is a story about an orphan cat named Oliver, who joins a gang of dog-thieves led by a certain clever boxer. They become friends and together survive many adventures on the streets of New York.
  • The film features such characters as Dodger, a crafty dog who takes Oliver under his wing, Fagin, a poor but hearty dog owner, and Jenny, a rich little girl who takes Oliver in.
  • The film is known for songs written by Barry Mann, Howard Ashman and others, including Billy Joel's popular single, "Why Should I Worry?".
  • Although the film was not as successful as other Disney classics, it is often remembered as an important step on the road to the "Disney Renaissance," a period in Disney history that brought such films as "The Little Mermaid," "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast."
  • "Oliver and Company" was the first Disney production in which well-known actors and singers such as Billy Joel (Dodger), Bette Midler (Georgette) and Cheech Marin (Tito) lent their voices to the characters.
