Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) was the 33rd president of the United States. He was born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. He was a member of the Democratic Party.

Truman became president after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in April 1945. He had been Roosevelt's vice president since 1945. After becoming president, Truman faced many challenges, including the end of World War II. It was during his term that two historic events took place - the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, which contributed to the end of the Pacific War, and the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.

Truman also carried out a number of important reforms in the country, including the introduction of the Fair Deal plan, which aimed to increase support for workers, develop infrastructure and reform health care. However, the plan faced resistance in Congress and was not fully implemented.

Truman was re-elected president in the 1948 election, despite being considered the favorite to lose to Thomas Dewey. His victory is considered one of the biggest surprises in the history of US presidential elections.

Truman ended his presidency in January 1953 and returned to private life. After leaving office, he enjoyed recognition and respect for his public service.
