Pineapple is a plant that belongs to the bromeliad family. Plants like the one in this category and its species which consists of 7 plants are mainly found in South America. Mostly we can find it in Brazil. However the fruit used to look a little different than it does nowadays because it has been modified to be tastier and have a lot less seeds than 50 to 100 years ago. It grows on the very top of a large and tough stalk. The interesting thing is that it has spiny leaves. The main countries that grow this fruit and ship it all over Europe are as we mentioned Brazil but also Hawaii, Mexico and the Philippines. We also have this plant in Europe but it has to be grown in a greenhouse. This crop is located in the United Kingdom.
A little about the plant itself and its health properties. It has a lot of different types of vitamins and minerals. The predominant vitamins here are group A, C, B1 and B2, PP. As well as folic acid or zinc and copper. The composition is mainly simple sugars, when it comes to calories, if we eat 100g we get a dose of 50 kcal. The whole plant is practically a carbohydrate.
