Parasaurolophus (Parasaurolophus) is a genus of duck-billed dinosaurs that lived in the Late Cretaceous, about 76.5-73 million years ago, in what is now North America. They are best known for their unusual head structure.

- Appearance: Parasaurolophus had a large, long and curved comb on its head, which was probably used for communication, thermoregulation and as an exponent of sexual selection. Adult specimens could reach lengths of up to 10 meters, and the comb on the head could measure up to 1.8 meters.
- Diet: Like all duck-billed dinosaurs, Parasaurolophus was a herbivore. It had a hard beak with which it could pick plants, and a special chewing apparatus on its back teeth enabled it to grind food efficiently.
- Disposition: Parasaurolophus fossils have been found in areas of the present-day United States (Utah, New Mexico) and Canada (Alberta).
- Discovery: Parasaurolophus was first described scientifically in 1922 by paleontologist William Parks based on fossils found in Canada.
- Comb: The unusual crest of the Parasaurolophus is the subject of much research. Some theories suggest that it may have served to amplify or modify the sounds made by the dinosaur, which may have helped it communicate. Other theories indicate that the comb may have been used for thermoregulation, helping the animal get rid of excess heat.
- Extinction: Like most dinosaurs, Parasaurolophus probably became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, some 66 million years ago, in a mass extinction event whose causes are still the subject of scientific debate today.
