One of the first spacecraft was the Pioneer 10 probe, launched in 1972.It was equipped with instruments to collect data about space and made a mission to Saturn in 1979.Pioneer 11, launched in 1973, made a mission to Jupiter in 1974.Both spacecraft are still being sent to distant regions of the solar system. Another famous spacecraft is Cassini-Huygens, launched in 1997. This rover was able to survive in extreme space conditions and collected a huge set of data about Saturn and its moons and the presence of organic components in the planetary gas and dust system.

Over the past few decades, many other spacecraft have carried out missions to various planets in the solar system. In 2006, the New Horizons probe was launched to help discover Pluto and its moon system.
